What is Software Piracy?
Software piracy is the unauthorized copying, distribution or use of Alias software.
Types of Piracy Activities
Common piracy activities are:
I.
copying the software and:
1.
using the software on more computers than are licensed;
2.
exchanging the software with others;
3.
distributing the software, including over the Internet;
II.
Making available information to "crack" our software.
Alias Software License Agreement
Purchasing Alias software is different than most other purchases. An end-user purchases only the right to use the software; an end user does not purchase the software.
Software use is governed by the software license agreement. Transactions to license or transfer the software are restricted to Alias' sales force and our authorized resellers. Licensees (end-users) may not copy, exchange, distribute, sell or transfer the software.
Investment Impact
Unauthorized distribution or use of Alias software detrimentally impacts the investment in our products. Alias' reason to be in business is undermined when potential customers are able to obtain software from illegitimate sources. Unauthorized distribution or use also adversely affects our customers' investments in our products.
A company/individual found guilty of piracy risks having to pay fines, damages for illegal use of the software and costs for destruction of the software, and going to prison.
Anti-Piracy Activities
Alias carries on several activities to combat software piracy including:
1.
Education of current and future customers about our license agreement and our intellectual property rights;
2.
Shut-down of illegal Internet, (including auction), sites; and
3.
Collaborating with organizations worldwide to identify, gather evidence and prosecute pirates.
Report Piracy
If you are aware of an auction, posting or web site dealing with the sale and/or unauthorized distribution of Alias software, report it.
